Home > Volunteer

Despite Malaysia’s rapid development, there are thousands of kids living in the orphanages and homes. Local organizations running orphanage programs are running out of resources and manpower. So, the help of international and local volunteers is greatly needed and appreciated. As a volunteer in the orphanage, you will mostly be involved in teaching English, Bahasa Malaysia and other subjects such as Maths and Science. Volunteers can teach other subjects and help the orphans to understand the importance of hygiene, sanitation and good manners, and help them with their homework. Additional help in distributing food, organizing creative activities like game, painting, drawing, and maintaining the compound can be expected.

We have ongoing support and resources to feed and house orphaned and abandoned children in other areas, clean and caring facilities. You can help expand this legacy of love and compassion by sharing your heart and hands where there are thousands of children who will benefit.

Parents of these sick and malnourished children face unimaginable choices: watch them live on the fringe of society, without sufficient food, shelter or basic medicines; relinquish them to institutions that can feed and house them; or abandon them when their own lives end or become too burdensome. The children who are spared are taken in by local children's homes and clothed, housed and educated. Orphanage staffs needs you to play games with the kids, help them with their studies, teach them songs, music and dance and work with them on handicrafts and artwork.

In addition, you will teach conversational English or other subjects of elementary school or help with construction, painting, cleaning, repair or gardening in the facilities.

The types of Volunteering projects/programs you could be involved will include:

  • Teaching English
  • Child Development
  • Fundraising
  • Women's Development Centers
  • Medical Volunteering
  • Community Development

Orphanage and Children's Home

Volunteering at the children's home is very popular with volunteers. Participants forge close bonds with children whose disposition and attitude belie their difficult circumstances. Some children belong to former factory workers, some have mothers in prison and others have been orphaned by birth. Individuals who volunteer vouch for a fulfilling experience.

Volunteers are needed to teach in the homes itself as the children attend government schools. The most requested subject is English, but you can also teach math, science, music, geography, art, dance or any other subject of your choice.

Teaching English

Our children are 5 to 18 years old. The curriculum for each major subject is based on the students' standard school/class books. Volunteers are encouraged to create their own schedules for lessons and depending on the subject, volunteers can bring along teaching materials such as picture books, instruments, flash cards, art supplies and songs.

We have our own permanent staff member who assists volunteers with teaching and communicating with the children and colleagues.

Classes are held six days a week, teaching time can be programmed accordingly. The volunteers first language does not have to be English. We prefer that volunteers teach for at least one month, although exceptions can be made in special circumstances.
