Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Building Fund

Swami Sri R. Govindasamy had in 1993 embarked on a special project of building of temple for Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna. He had been looking for a special site where devotees from all over the country could congregate. With that in mind, he ordered a statue of Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna to be sculptured at Varanasi. The statue is made of one piece solid white marble. It took the sculptors in Varanasi almost 3 years to complete it. The sculpturing of the statue was personally supervised by Swamiji who stayed in Varanasi for a week and the mould was prepared under his watchful eyes. He returned a year later and again made corrections and adjustments. The weight of the solid white marble statue was 3 tons while the lotus flower which was in black weighed 2 tons. This statue is the tallest and biggest in the world in terms of height and weight.

7 Feet Tall Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna at Melaka Ashram

The statue was brought to Malaysia on 16 August 2002 at 6pm by sea from Varanasi, coincidentally 16/8 was the date Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna achieved Mahasamadhi. It was brought by road to Calcutta and was shipped to Port Kelang. From there it was temporarily housed at the Sri Dhasthayathapany temple in Batang Berjuntai. Finally, in 2006 Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna was brought to the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram in Melaka and it is now permanently placed in the Ashram.

To fulfill Swami Sri R. Govindasamy wishes, the Management Committee of the Ashram has decided to build a shrine within the present building in Melaka. The committee has proposed to add on to the present bungalow a two storey structure where on the ground floor will be the prayer hall and shrine of Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna. Special spaces besides Bhagwan will be reserved for Holy Mother Saradha Devi and Swami Vivekananda. On the first floor, rooms for guests (men and woman), dorms for more children and additional facilities such as bathrooms and toilets will also be built. The estimated cost of this new additional block is in the region of RM500, 000.00.
